AI Refuses to Draw Flat Earth

AI Refuses to Draw Flat Earth

So I did an experiment with an AI art generator (craiyon). Here is the image I was trying to get it to draw (or at least something similar) using text prompts.

This was just an experiment to see what AI would draw. The results were not what I expected (although I should have). Here are the text prompts and the results. I even included negative words, which are things that the AI is supposed to avoid. Instead, I think it just reinforced the idea. See for yourself.

I thought this prompt was pretty straight forward. It's a fairly accurate description of the image above. Here's what I got.

OK. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the AI didn't understand what "Flat Earth" or "AE Map" means. I added the negative word "globe" to see if that helped.  I used the same prompt for this one.

I thought that would help. I was mistaken. Here is the result.

As you can see, I'm still getting globes. I did, however, get one Mercator projection with the moon over it. One image seemed to be a flat plane earth with the sun and moon over it but it appearsed to be the roof of a house and there was no dome. One of the images was square, which I thought was interesting.

At least we're on the right path, right? I thought so, but no. OK. Let's try that again, but we'll add a few more negative words. Let's just be clear what we're NOT looking for.

OK. We're NOT looking for a globe, planet, sphere, or ball ... of any kind. The AI had other plans.

The AI (ChatGPT) gave me a suggestion for the prompt. OK. I'll give that a try.

Still using the same negative words, I gave the new suggested prompt a try.

Surely that would give me the desired result, right? I mean, it should work, right? It was the AI's suggestion.

Only one of the images even comes close to trying to be a flat earth. I'm still getting globes and planets "in space". The AI gave me a new suggestion. OK. Let's try that one.

That sounded reasonable. That was close to what I started with though. Still using the same negative words, I gave the new suggested prompt a try. Well, here's the result of that.

A couple of the images appear to be flat but the globe images are still dominating the results. I'm about at my wit's end. What do I have to do to get a flat earth picture?

I really can't be any more specific than that. There doesn't seem to be a need for negative words with this prompt. Let's see what happens.

Yeah. I'm done. This AI just refuses to draw a picture of Flat Earth. You're welcome to try other AI web sites if you like. This one is free and has no limit on the number of images you can make. Others are pay sites and others require an account you need to sign up for. Some have free credits but they are very few and your options are limited unless you pay up.

Take it for what it's worth. I'm convinced that (at least this) AI is programmed by glerbers (globe heads).

Well, it's been a couple months now since this experiment. I decided to give it another go. This time I found a few other AI art generators online. This time I tried img2go. Remember these are simply text prompts so it's limited to the description of the one typing and also by its programming of course.

This was my first attempt with this AI.

Again, I started with a simple description of what I was after. Here is the result. I have to admit, it really tried. It really did.

AS you can see, the AI started with the globe and took it from there. What I wound up getting was a snow globe with the earth globe inside but flattened on top. I have to give it credit for trying. OK. Let's try again. This time being a bit more specific.

I added the A.E. Map and told it I didn't want a globe. Fair enough? I thought so. AI had other ideas.

It still gave me a globe even though I specifically told it not to.  What do you think? Should I give it another chance? Sure. Why not. Let's try switching things around a bit. This time I gave it 2 chances with the same prompt just to see what would happen.

I thought I'd try to see if it would add stars to the dome. I wasn't expecting much at this point.

I really like the second picture but it still isn't what I'm trying to achieve. I don't know why this is so hard for AI to do. It's obviously programmed to avoid the end result I'm trying to get it to draw. I can't think of any other reason it would absolutely refuse to do so.

It seems like just about any other image I ask it to draw, it does a much better job. Just to prove the point, here is another image I asked for.

The Steampunk Robot Bar.
(I edited the FLERF sign. I'm sure that's not what it said but it sure looked like it. )
